Junior achievement  will ensure that every child in The Bahamas has a fundermental understanding of the free enterprise system.

  •  Chartered locally in 1979 by Mr. Franklyn Wilson , chairman of Arawak Homes Ltd.

  • A  programme of the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture.
  •  
  •  Governed by a 21 member board of directors comprising local business and community leaders headed by Chairman Mr. Felix Stubbs, GM - IBM Bahamas Ltd.
  •  
  • Corporate sponsorship provided by  local firms with Adult Volunteer Advisors who guide students through a 25 week course in the Orgarnisation, Management, Production and Marketing of a small model Corporation.
  •  
  • Current sponsors include Bahamas Electricity Corporation, Bahamas telecommunications Company Ltd., British American Financial, Commonwealth Bank, Deloitte., IBM Bahamas Ltd., KPMG, National Insurance Board, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, RBC Royal Bank   of Canada, The Plus Centre and Cititrust Bahamas Ltd.

JA companies sell 100 stocks @ $3.00 to capitalize, cononduct product and market research, purchase raw materials, manufacture products, offer services, liquidate and return dividends to stockholders after paying themselves salaries and wages.

 

Currently providing economic training programmes in New Providence, The Berry Islands, Grand Bahama, Central South and north Andros, Mangrove Cay, Abaco Eleuthera  and Harbour Island to 1986 high school students.

 

25,000 participants from throughout the islands of the Bahamas ( 1979 - 2008 )

 

Scholarship Award Programme for all participants donated by Bahamas Supermarkets Foundation, IBM Bahamas Ltd., Central Bank Of the Bahamas, First Caribbean International Bank, Royal Bank Financial, Bahamian Springs Water Co.

S. G. Hambros Bank & Trust, Bank of the Bahamas International , St Leo University, Johnson Whales University, Moore House College and The JA Scholarship Fund.

 

Member in good standing with 119 other countries with 8.6 million registered students, 36 languages, 24 time zones, 6 continents and ONE VISION.

 

Business Venture, after high school  employment and travel opportunities.

 

Personal skills and self esteem development curriculum

 

Produced many business executives, entrepreneurs and community leaders.
